A tourist visa would be applicable if you are traveling to Brazil for any of the following reasons:

1. To visit relatives or friends.
2. Scientists, professors, or researchers attending cultural, technological, or scientific conferences or seminars.
3. To participate in amateur artistic or athletic competition, where no monetary prize is awarded, and no admission fee is charged.
4. Sightseeing, tourism, or general leisure travel.

Collect and Prepare Visa Application Documents


A.

Valid U.S. Passport

You must send your valid U.S. passport. The passport must have at least 6 months of validity left, and have at least 1 blank visa page. (Blank endorsement pages in your passport are not acceptable.)
B.

One passport Photo

Photo must be 2x2, black and white, or color, with a white, or light background, and show a full, front view of your face. The photos must also be printed on photo quality paper. Photos printed on normal paper will be rejected by the embassy. Digital photos taken by the applicant are not accepted.

Official Invitation from sponsoring organizaton

This letter is only needed if you are attending a conference, or participating in an amateur artistic or athletic competition while in Brazil. A faxed copy of this letter is acceptable.

Proof of departure

You will need to submit a copy of round trip airline tickets or itinerary showing round trip flight numbers and times, or a cruise itinerary showing round trip boarding information. Please make sure the following information is also included on any proof of departure documentation:
  • Confirmed travel to Brazil within 90 days of submitting the visa application.
  • The applicant's name.
  • The date of entry into Brazil.
  • The date of departure from Brazil.

Yellow fever vaccination card

A yellow fever vaccination card is required for all applicants entering Brazil from any other South American country. It should be stapled into the passport you are sending with your visa application. It is recommended that all applicants supply a Yellow Fever vaccination card if possible.
G.

Special requirements for all applicants under the age of 18

1. If the applicant is under the age of 18, both parents must sign and notarize the visa application and submit a notarized copy of the child's birth certificate. The parents should also be applying for a Brazilian visa at the same time as the child. If the parents are not applying at the same time, then one of the following requirements must be met:

  • If the parent is not traveling with the child, they must include a signed and notarized letter of consent authorizing the minor to travel with the other parent, or a third party. This letter must also grant the embassy permission to issue the visa to the child.
  • If the parent traveling with the child already has a Brazilian visa, then a photocopy of the visa must be submitted with the child's application.
  • If a parent has sole custody of the child, then legal documentation of custody must be provided with the visa application.

2. It is strongly recommended that a copy of a Polio vaccination, including type and dosage, be included for all applicants under the age of 6.

Processing fees

1. Consular Fees: This fee must be paid by US Postal Service money order made payable to the Embassy of Brazil. DO NOT SEND PERSONAL OR COMPANY CHECKS. Include your name and date of birth on the money order. Do not include your address on the money order. This fee can also be paid by credit card, using the customer information form in step #2 below.

  • Your valid U.S. Passport.
  • 1 Passport Photo.
  • The visa application form, completed and signed.
  • Invitation letter if attending a conference, or participating in an amateur artistic or athletic event.
  • Proof of departure.
  • Yellow Fever vaccination card if applicable.
  • Additional documentation for minors if applicable.
  • Payment for the consular fees, and service fees.
  • The order confirmation page from the customer information form.
  • A copy of drivers licence or utility bill to prove jurisdiction.
